Education: Dr. rer. nat. in zoology at Free University, Berlin, Germany, 1987
Research interests: Rehder’s research interests include the development of the nervous system and understanding the mechanisms by which neurons establish their specific connections using in vitro molecular, electrophysiological and imaging techniques in an invertebrate model, pond snails (Helisoma trivolvis), and chick sensory neurons. This approach can now be applied to the sympathetic nervous system and sensory innervations of white and brown adipose tissue in mammals.
Rehder earned a doctorate degree in zoology at Free University in Germany and completed post-doctoral training at Colorado State University.
